New release....Tuesday?

Please pardon the lack of blog action lately, as some of us have been on vacation while others have been very busy. It was a nice weekend at Decatur CD, but we're sad to say there's not a lot coming out tomorrow that we're excited about. Well, except for the Clipse album (which Pitchfork wrote up nicely today) and some new stuff from one of our favorite local labels, Dust-to-Digital, including a box set that will be known as the "first ever anthology of the string bass," How Low Can You Go? If you were one of the many who got the gospel box set or the Fonotone box set, you know how awesome that will be.

OK, so maybe tomorrow isn't as bad as we're making it out to be, but it's easily one of the lightest release dates of the year. Still, we'd love to see you. And if you like great hip hop or string bass box sets, well, we've got you covered. Of course, we have all sorts of other amazing stuff that came out before tomorrow, so don't be afraid to say hello in the comments and let us know what you're looking for. We'll get it for you. Until then...

Do it for the kids.

As you can see from the smiling alien above, we just recently started carrying an interesting disc called Decatur Kids Sing Folks Songs, a full album's worth of children's music written in part by very young people around the Decatur area. Say the liner notes: "Eric Litwin taught the students to write their own lyrics as they learned about imagery, meter and rhyme. As students rehearsed their songs, they learned about tone, tempo and timing."

Quite an interesting project this is, one that benefits the Decatur Youth Fund, which provides all sorts of support (including after-school care, academics, summer camp and more) to the children of Decatur, GA. As such, we're donating all proceeds from the disc to the fund. Stop by and show your support...

The Selmanaires in-store photos

Last night, Decatur CD was thoroughly rocked by The Selmanaires. The band played several tracks from Here Come the Selmanaires, but also did a number of new tracks, which were quite excellent. We're looking forward to the next record...and the next time these guys play the store. Thanks to all who attended.

Birthday Update

The third birthday celebration of Decatur CD is nearly upon us. With that, there is much excitement and much to announce. Tomorrow night, as you should already know, The Selmanaires (visit their MySpace page to listen to songs if you're not familiar - such a great band!) will perform a free set of electrified rock 'n' roll at 7pm. But we do have a couple other tricks up our sleeve...

As the logo above might indicate, we've purchased a rather sizeable keg of Rye Pale Ale from our pals at Terrapin to use as a part of our Friday night festivities. We will crack that sucker open right around the time the band starts its set, and anyone who is 21 years of age or older can help themselves to some delicious free beer until it's gone.

Additionally, beginning at 5pm, everything in the store will go on sale for 20% off the regular price. Box sets, used and new discs of all genres and basically anything else that's not tied down will be a full 1/5 off. The sale will continue until closing on Sunday night, so don't miss out on the hot deals.

That's pretty much it. Our birthday. A great rock band. Free beer. Cheap tunes. What more can you ask for? We'll see you there. Bring some cake...

Our birthday celebration commences soon.

Decatur CD is turning three years old soon, and to celebrate, we're planning a little fun. Kicking off the birthday weekend will be a performance by one of our favorite local bands, The Selmanaires. They'll play the store at 7pm on Friday night, in all their rock 'n' roll glory. We'll have free beer for the adults and probably another surprise or two up our collective sleeve, so don't miss out on this event. And if for some reason you haven't heard the band's excellent debut album, Here Come The Selmanaires, by all means, stop by before Friday and we'll play it for you. Then you'll realize we're so excited about this in-store performance. See you Friday!

Spooky.

In case you haven't met her, here's Decatur CD's latest employee, Kerry. For Halloween, Kerry was a piece of shrapnel or a spoon or a baked potato or a tin (wo)man, depending on her mood. Basically, she had the most versatile costume ever, and we thought it was worthy of bloggage. Stop by and say hello to Kerry sometime...
