Oryx and Crake & Dale Watson In-Stores!

On September 11th, we'll have new local band Oryx and Crake playing the store. O&C have been getting some stellar write-ups on local blogs, and we're happy to be the first store they play at. If you wanna see them live beforehand, their CD release party is at The EARL this Saturday, August 28th. We've got their self-titled debut album on a listening station here at the store, so stop by and check it out or try out a few songs on the band's MySpace page.

On September 22nd, we'll have legendary alt-country songwriter Dale Watson, a man the All Music Guide describes thusly: "A staunch adherent of old-style honky tonk and Bakersfield country, Dale Watson has positioned himself as a tattooed, stubbornly independent outsider only interested in recording authentic country music. As a result, he has never sold many records, but his music has been championed by numerous critics and alternative country fans." Count us as the latter!

We'll announce times, other goodies, etc. about these in-store performances as they get closer. For now, though, save the date!

Deadstring Brothers in-store - Tonight - 6pm

Come have a beer with Deadstring Brothers tonight! From the newsletter:

Deadstring Brothers in-store: Weds., August 18, 6pm
Described by Paste as "Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Gram Parsons in their primes, transplanted to Detroit, laid off from the Ford plant, pissed off and ready to pound longnecks at the local saloon," and by the Chicago Reader as building "an identity of their own with their stolen blueprints, turning in flinty, soulful performances that bring infectious vitality to bluesy rockers and boozy honky-tonk," as you can probably tell, we can't wait to get this Motor City band in the store on Wednesday, August 18th at 6pm. We've got their new record (via Bloodshoot), Sao Paulo, on a listening station, so you should come check it out or sample some tunes via the band's MySpace. This one's gonna be a blast.
