A nice evening indeed...

A quick note from the benevolent dictator of Decatur CD Industries, Warren D. Hudson...

Took in a very nice, intimate concert with Jolie Holland and Carey Lamprecht on Thursday. Over two hours of musical excellence from Jolie with about 45 enthusiastic listeners at rapt attention. Grocery on Home was all I had heard and more.

She was a gifted performer and a troubled soul. Such a tragic loss. Everybody spin Back to Black today and think about what could have been. The 27 Club has inducted its latest member.

Win two tickets to the Georgia Mountain Fair!

There's a reason we do this every year, folks. The Georgia Mountain Fair is an excellent, one-of-a-kind event that comes to Hiawassee each summer. From the newsletter:

It's getting to be that time of the summer. The time where maybe you've seen one or two (thousand) too many mosquitoes. The time where that one annoying guy at work, you know the one, who keeps clearing his throat a little too loudly a couple cubicles over, has finally pushed you over the edge. The time to...get away? Turns out, we've got just the thing: two tickets to the Americana Roots and Music Day at the Georgia Mountain Fair on July 23 in Hiawassee. This year's all day (10am-11pm) music event will feature Nelson Thomas, Larkin Poe, The Waybacks, 18 South, Irons in the Fire and The Claire Lynch Band. Stop by the store and drop your name in the giveaway box up front by the cash register for your chance to win!

The Civil Wars are coming to Agnes Scott!

Pretty exciting, right? If you're into the Americana/folk world, you've no doubt already heard of (and purchased music from) this pair. We've been selling The Civil Wars' debut album, Barton Hollow (not to mention their Record Store Day 7") like gangbusters since it came out in March. They've gotten bigtime celebrity co-signs from the likes of Taylor Swift and Grey's Anatomy, and are getting written up by all sorts of folks. There's a good reason for this, too. They make awesome, heartfelt, finely-crafted tunes the likes of which don't come along every day.

The point? Oh, there is a point.

The Civil Wars are coming to Agnes Scott's Presser Hall as a part of the Eddie & Agnes concert series that the school and Eddie Owen of Eddie's Attic have been doing of late. Pretty exciting stuff, if you ask us. The show is on Sunday, Oct. 9, tickets are $25 and you can get them through Ticket Alternative, which means you can pick them up right here at Decatur CD if you bring cash. Not a bad deal, right? Save the date!
