July 4

This Fourth of July, Warren says we're going to shoot off "indoor fireworks." What does that mean? Is it legal? How could it even be pulled off without hurting ourselves and others? WHO KNOWS. But he says it's going to happen and that we should "put it on the blog." So. There you have it.

One-Day-Only Beat the Heat Sale at Decatur CD

Ugh. Just look at that. It's enough to make you fill a bathtub with ice and quietly wait for the end times. Don't know about you, but we're sweaty. Uncomfortable. Longing for autumn. Even with the air conditioning blasting. But we thought we'd try to lessen the pain by saving you some money. If you'd like to take us up on that, stop by the store any time today (Saturday, June 30) and mention this blog post as you're checking out. We'll take $1.07 off every new (not used, sorry) CD/DVD/LP/box set/book/etc. You can spend the extra cash on sunscreen, that unfortunately-higher-than-usual electricity bill, a sixer of cold brews, or whatever your preferred stay-cool method is during these decidedly uncool times. Hope to see you!

July Show Guide

By our estimation, there are 30 35 shows worth checking out this month, depending on what you love. There are only 31 days in July, which means, if you're lucky, you could see a show almost every single day you can average more than one show per day, if you're an insane person. Callaghan & Sara Watkins Photos

We've had a couple of very talented gals in the store recently, but have been slow on uploading the photos. Let's fix that now, shall we? Answer: We shall. If you attended either performance and have some sweet shots, please let us know in the comments. We'd be happy to post them. Thanks!

Sara Watkins In-Store: Saturday, June 9

We've got Sara Watkins in the store on Saturday. Chances are, you know her from her work with the wonderful Nickel Creek (who she played with from age eight [!!!] until her mid-20s, and whose Chris Thile played DCD a few years back with The Punch Brothers), but she's since released a couple solo albums, toured with The Decemberists and done all sorts of other stuff that makes all other 30-year-olds look like they're shiftless, unaccomplished layabouts. She'll play the store at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and we're delighted to have her. She'll also play a special, early show at Smith's (doors at 6 p.m.) that evening.
