Emmylou, Rodney, Richard, oh my!

Well, this is a delightful bill if ever we've seen one. Richard Thompson opening for Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell on April 4? Yes, please! From the Cobb Energy Centre website:
Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell had been meaning to get around to recording together for a long time--about three decades. The duo (who are multiple Grammy award winners in their own rights) finally made the time, and will soon release their first official collaboration since Crowell played in Harris' Hot Band in 1975, Old Yellow Moon. "I first heard Rodney on a demo tape in 1974 and knew immediately from his voice and lyrics he had the right stuff," Harris says. "We met soon after, becoming bandmates in the Hot Band and starting a friendship that has continued and grown over the years. I always hoped we would someday do this record, and now I can finally cross it off my bucket list!"

New Releases 1/22/13

"What's the list price on that naval ship?" was something that was just asked, aloud, here in the store. Just wanted you to know the level of utter zaniness under which we're operating at pretty much all times. Amidst all the insanity, though, we tend to get a little work done, here and there, and some of that work involves new releases. "Which new releases are, in fact, new this week?" you ask. Good question! Please see below.

Toro y Moi
Carrie Rodriguez
Ra Ra Riot
Searching for Sugar Man  DVD
Camper Van Beethoven
Petra Haden
Fidlar
Bad Religion
Aaron Neville (covers)
Darius Rucker
Adam Ant
The Joy Formidable
Mumford & Sons (Babel deluxe)

Jon Spencer, Yo La Tengo, Calexico!

Over the weekend, we pointed you toward a couple shows for which we're giving away tickets. Today, we'd like to recommend a couple shows for which you should buy tickets. Make it rain on these gigs, dear reader:

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion @ The EARL — Friday, Jan. 18
Sez Mr. Spencer himself, ""We still have that psychic glue that allows us to create music together." In addition to psychic glue, we have it on good authority that JSBX can still completely annihilate a stage.

Yo La Tengo & Calexico @ Buckhead Theatre — Friday, Jan. 25
Two great tastes that taste great together! We probably don't need to say much about either of these indie-rock legends, both of which we sell on the regular and have enjoyed live in the past.

Robert Earl Keen, Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale!

We've got some sweet ticket giveaways (one soon, one less-than-soon) coming up for Variety Playhouse. On Wednesday, Jan. 16, Robert Earl Keen stops by the Little Five Points venue, and on Saturday, March 2, Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale bring their Buddy & Jim show to the historic theatre space. Stop by the store to enter for either of these excellent Americana shows!

New Releases 1/15/13

Could it be? The actual, first, legit, genuine, totes-for-realsies release date of 2013? Well, sorta. There are a few goodies to be had (see above, below), but it seems the recording industry is still warming up. No worries, though; we'll be patient. Check out the brief list of what's new this week, and let us know what you're looking for, be it fresh or not-so-fresh.
